DRAKES TV & RADIO.

In my last post I mentioned that I've finally had some of the free paper downloads printed out. So I thought I have a go at making one. I picked Drakes because it all came on one sheet of paper, easier to build I thought.
IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.

So as it was so hot, I ventured out of the bunker, armed with cereal box card and spray glue along with the printout. The printout was successfully stuck to the card. After a ten minute wait, the recommended amount according to the can, I took it back inside to cut it out and score the bends. During the drying time the card was placed on a flat surface and some rather large and heavy books where placed on top of it.

The cutting out was completed with a metal ruler and craft knife, as per the instruction sheet, and proved to be relatively straightforward. The scoring was completed with the same tools and again seemed quite simple to achieve.
ALL THE BITS READY FOR GLUE.

I then assembled it following the instructions provided. I used a glue stick. Again this went quite smoothly, much to my relief. The only fiddly bit was getting the roof inside the walls. I also need to edge the card with a black marker.

THE SHADY PART OF TOWN.

My apologies for the poor quality of the photo's showing the completed building, that's what happens when I take them myself.

The only thing I found with this building, is it seems a little on the small side. I measured the door and it's 30mm tall, where as on the Horseman's building the doors are 45mm. Maybe this could be resolved by increasing the scale before printing.
AROUND THE BACK.

Well, that's all I got for this time dudes and dudettes. Until next time, try and follow the DUDE'S example and "take it easy".

  1. Looks good some offices are very small it should work.

  2. Thanks Robert.
Will have to see it next to "Horseman's Deli" to make a proper judgement.

  3. That looks spot on, great job Bob.

It didn't go as badly as I feared it would.

  4. I agree, this is a small looking building. Although I haven't made mine yet, what I will be doing is printing out four lots of side walls to double up the width of the sides and giving the building greater depth. Oh, and I'll need to print out two sets of roofs as well. Even so, your building looks very good, Bob.

I'd like to try this again, enlarged by 50%, I think it might work better then. Even so it didn't go too badly for my first proper attempt. Your plan for expanding the building sounds good, would like to see that.

  5. Microtactix builldings come in two distinct sizes, "heroic" (suitable for 28mm figures) and smaller (not suitable for 28mm figures). When the smaller sizes have a 28mm figure on their gross slotta bases it makes the building look much worse. I think I increased my tenements by about 140%-150% to get a more acceptable size.
It's the learning curve thing - too damn steep imo

    1. Joe's absolutely right about the scale of the various Microtactix models. Some, like the Horseman's Deli are designed for 28mm scale figures and some like the one you've just made are nearer 20mm in scale. Resizing should work but it it is a faff!

    2. @Zabadak. Thanks Joe.
Yeah I noticed the "heroic" tag on the Horseman's Deli kit, but didn't realise they came in two different sizes. D'oh! At least it was good practice constructing this one!

      @Vampifan. Thanks Bryan.
This is definitely too small, like you said nearer 20 mm scale. Something will eventually go right for me concerning card scenery. Why is resizing such a faff?

  6. Looks good to me! Are they free downloads?

They are free downloads from Wargame Vault, be aware this is only suitable for 20 mm scale. My next build is Horseman's Deli, I might actually be able to use that one.

  7. Ha, you were writing about what you did as if something went wrong in the end and I was quite surprised to see it all worked out after all! :P

Don't worry about the size, you'd struggle to get a decently sized building on a table anyways.

I was as surprised as you were.
It's definitely way too small, now that I've built the Deli, it looks ridiculous.

  8. It looks good to me and the method for building them you've mastered. Perhaps mounting it on a base or something will make it more salvageable?

If I was going to use it a base would definitely help matters but it's way too small to be used. It was good practice to build though.

  9. It is a small building, but use it to fill out a street alongside others and it works fine, the upscaling is a good idea if it still doesn't look right

I guess it could be used as filler for now.
