DE(AD)CEMBER WEEK # 3

What's occurrin'.

The wonderful Mrs. K has made me pack away all my modelling stuff until after the Winter Solstice festivities have finished, so unfortunately I have no painted zombies to show you. Luckily I do have a couple of photo's of some gaming the WNI has been upto. I'm sure your all glad of the rest from the zombies anyway.

More culture to show, another magnificent zombie santa by savage zombie. I really like this dude's style, they are incredibly detailed. The lighting effect, I find superb.Beautiful work! This delightfully festive piece is called Merry Xmas 2011. Enjoy!

MERRY XMAS 2011.

These shots were taken a couple of weeks ago at our usual WNI (Wednesday Night Irregulars) gathering. It's about the fourth time we've played Dead of Winter and we still haven't won a game yet. I think it's because so far we've tried to play it like Zombicide, where killing zombies is the order of the day. Hence the name.

Dead of Winter is much more about resource gathering and management, rather than fighting. One of the main reasons is that it's so easy to die. Every time you travel to a location or fight a zed, you have to roll the exposure dice. With varying results like dead, frostbitten or just bitten, I'm sure there's blank spaces on it too, I just didn't roll any.

A COUPLE OF TURNS IN. MY ARMS AT THE TOP.

At the bottom of the above photo you can see a knife shaped counter, that's the first player token. The large square in the middle is the colony, where your band of survivors start and have to defend from the zombie menace. You'll also notice cards surrounding this with piles of black cards on them. The black cards are the results of your searching, mainly resources but there's also a few surprises including more survivors to join your merry band. They are stacked in the different locations that you have to travel to.

Not only are you battling zombies but you are also combating the cold and potential starvation. Every survivor has to be fed as do a few hapless survivors, who are not characters like the survivors you can play as. This is one of the main objectives, just finding enough food to last from turn to turn. On top of this every turn has it's own crisis, a new crisis card is turned over every turn, solved by gathering certain resources like food, medicine or fuel amongst other things.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ZOMBIES. WE'D ALL GONE FOR A SMOKE BREAK.

The main objective was revealed at the beginning of the game by drawing a card from the scenario deck. This tells you how many turns the colony has to survive for and any other requirements to be met. Another way to lose is have morale hit zero. Your starting morale is also on the scenario card. Morale is affected, usually negatively by things like not completing your crisis needs, not having enough food and people dying.

The zombies also turn up with alarming regularity mind. Every turn zombies appear at the colony, equal to the number of people in the colony including hapless survivors. They also show up at the various locations where survivors are, again equal to the number of survivors, but there's also a chance the noise you made searching has attracted more. A four plus on a d6 results in a zombie appearing.

SHELDON PUTTING ZOMBIES ONTO A LOCATION.

There's also a waste management issue to resolve. Every resource you use to fulfill crises and food issues are put into the trash pile at the end of the turn. If there are ten waste cards in the trash pile at the end phase of the turn you lose one morale. Not good.

Another mechanic in play are the "crossroads" moments. Some of you may have noticed the yellow cards with the black arrows on the back of them. These are the crossroad cards. They represent chances that can change the course of the game, not always good. A crossroads card is given to the player who went first the previous turn or to the first player's right at the start, the first player token is passed to the left at the start of a new turn.

ANOTHER VIEW OF THE BOARD A FEW TURNS LATER.

The crossroad cards can only be played if certain conditions are met, like going to a particular location or by moving the character mentioned on the crossroads card. When they are played the shit can really hit the fan, a good example of one outcome is a mother seeing her zombiefied kids resulting in her burning down the school with her and her kids inside. Oh, happy days!

Everyone starts with two survivors. You roll a number of dice equal to your survivors plus one. These are your action dice and the results let you pay for searching and fighting plus a few other things. So you don't have unlimited actions to resolve everything. Also your survivors can die on one roll of the exposure dice, as happened to me, twice in the first two turns. Awesome!

AN OVERHEAD VIEW OF THE ACTION.

As you can see there are a lot of ways to lose Dead of Winter. We were doing really well on this particular evening, having survived three turns with only two more to endure for the win. When my clumsy ass knocked over an almost full cup of coffee. The resulting coffee tsunami flooded the playing area, taking us the rest of the evening to clean up and try and rescue Sheldon's Dead of Winter. Awkward! We haven't seen Sheldon since.

I'd just like to thank The Tollman for taking the pictures! And take this opportunity to wish all my viewers, followers and commentors a Happy Christmas. That's it for this time dudes and dudettes. So until next time try and be more like the DUDE and "take it easy".

TOXIC WALKERS # 3

What's occurrin' then?

Well it seems that the summer holidays are well and truly here. My daughter has been finished for several weeks (it feels like months, she can be very demanding). Now, my son is home from university for six weeks. Let the chaos reign! Hobby time will probably be curtailed as I attempt to entertain the little darlings.

I had to take a breather from the storage shed, more on that next time, and paint some mini's. It's been over a month since I painted a figure! Where the fuck does the time go? (I know, entropy and decay. It was rhetorical.)

OK, so on with the cultural mission. Another great piece by Bryan Baugh. More monochromatic goodness this time, with a lovely damsel in distress again. This one's called Cosmic Zombie. Enjoy!

Yeah, over a month since I painted a figure, not good enough really. I'll never finish at this rate. A little rusty too, my standards are dropping by the day. Still got some done the last few days.

These are the first of the female Toxic walkers, nothing much to say about them, straight out of the box. So no conversions but the sculpts are quite nice as they are.

FIRST OF THE TOXIC LADIES.

I guess some introductions are in order. So from left to right as usual. First up, she was working as a waitress at a cocktail bar, it's Adyna. Next in line, a car rental receptionist, Cordelia. Following her, primary school teacher Sioned. Finally, for this time, we have Mab. She's a barmaid.

Again, I've edged the bases in bright green to denote them as Toxic zombies.

TOXIC LADIES FROM BEHIND.

My posting seems to be all over the shop at the moment, so a concerted effort will be made to get things back on track. If the summer holidays allow that is!

No real news in other areas either. At least the WNI(Wednesday Night Irregulars) are gathering again this evening to save the world from the zombie menace. Best go put the kettle on!

Well, I guess that's all I got for now dudes and dudettes. So until next time, try and be more like the DUDE and "take it easy".

WELCOMES AND A WARNING.

Before we get to the meat of the post, I'm getting the welcome wagon back out of the shed. Several welcomes so I'm going to put bunting on it as well.
First of all let's give a big BZA welcome to Francis Lee of Angry Lurker fame. WELCOME FRAN.
Next let's give a BZA welcome, just as big to Johnny a.k.a. Lord Siwoc of Brains and Guts fame.
WELCOME JOHNNY.
I feel there should be a trumpet fanfare.
Both these guys run excellent blogs, if you haven't already, check them out.
I seemed to have picked up another one of them ninja types as well.
Thanks for following dudes.

One more thing. After my CABIN FEVER CONSTRUCTION CRISIS post, the very next day Carl Stoelzel left a comment explaining a few things and some tips on fixes for my crisis. What can I say, WOW, awesome customer service especially since I hadn't even paid for it. Thanks Carl.

And now to the meat. There in lies the problem. Since I finished that first tray of zombies I've done very little painting. Yes half term got in the way, but I seem to be loathe to start the next tray. I say start, they've all been basecoated and two lines have been given skin colours. It's just there's so many of them. 32, it doesn't seem that many when you write it down.

In other news, Sheldon is starting to outdo his Dudeness, this Wednesday at the weekly meeting of minds that is the WNI(Wednesday Night Irregulars), he gave me a Fred the Trader set, turns out one of the boys at our FLGG the Crow Valley Crusaders had kickedstarted for two of all the exclusive survivors and promptly gave most of it to Sheldon. As he'd just bought Fred the other week he passed him on to me. Cool or what!
MY VERY OWN SHAUN.

Other zombie entertainment. I feel it is my right as a zombie fan to warn you about "Battle of the Damned" starring Dolph Lundgren. What a pile! It's almost idiot-savant genius in how bad it is. Do yourselves a favour and give it a miss. I really want to be refunded the time I spent watching it, and I didn't even make it to the end.
PILE OF SHITE.
That's all I got for now dudes and dudettes. 'til the next time, you know the DUDE wants you all to "take it easy".

WEDNESDAY NIGHT IRREGULARS. YET ANOTHER WELCOME.

A little change of pace, instead of four painted zombies, thought I'd post about our little band of hobbynauts. Flavour of the moment is still Zombicide, which is great because I love this game. I'm half a tray of zombies into painting Season 1. The only trouble is that it has diverted my ATZ journey somewhat. Oh well.

Sheldon, our resident analist, got a load of missions online, the first 20 off the guillotine website I think. Had them bound by an e-doc company, BAM instant mission book. Gotta love them analist tendencies.

So out of this mission book, tonight we played mission number 12.
C12 AXES & ALLEYS. A mission by Lucas McDaniel.

"We are getting ready to leave the city, but we are making one last sweep through the neighbourhood looking for any supplies we can bring with us. There are lots of infected here....... I worry about stumbling upon a nest. We have to be careful."

OBJECTIVES.
Take all objective tokens. 5
Food Stocking. Find at least 1 Canned Food, 1 Bag of Rice and 1 Water cards.
Leave Town. Reach the Exit Zone.

SPECIAL RULES.
You've found the nest. One of the five objective tokens is blue, face down, so no one knows which one it is. When the blue token is revealed it's replaced with the blue spawn zone and immediately spawns. THIS IS NOT GOOD!

All five of the irregulars were in attendance.
Before I forget a big BZA WELCOME to Dave VanDam my latest follower, who runs the Round Dave's blog spot. Check out his blog it's very good.

TIME FOR SOME PICTURES!

MID GAME SHOT. WE ARE TRYING TO LURE ABOMINATION INTO A BUILDING

LURING ABOMINATION AWAY FROM THE POLICE CAR

THE TOLLMAN (LEFT) AND MORPH INTENT ON ZOMBIE SLAYING

SHELDON OUR RESIDENT ANALIST CONTEMPLATES HIS NEXT MOVE

THAT'S ME THAT IS

WE FOUND THE NEST (BLUE SPAWN ZONE) AND THE BOARD FILLS QUICKLY

ENDGAME.JUST GOT TO GET TO THE EXIT

FACING DOWN THE ABOMINATION

We managed to complete the mission, in 3 hours including smoke breaks, losing THE TOLLMAN'S character early on but we resurrected him as a Zombivor. Everybody took a wound during the game, but 3 of us hit red level (43 kills). We found all the food stores and only lost Sheldon's character right at the end when he sacrificed himself so we could all get out. HERO.

Well I hope you all enjoyed this brief distraction as much as we did playing it.
That's all I got for this time dudes and dudettes, so in the words of the DUDE "take it easy".

STUDIO PLASTICS 2

THE NEXT FOUR STUDIO PLASTICS LURCH IN.

AS USUAL THE REAR VIEW SHOWING I PAINT ALL THE FIGURE.
Not much action at the bunker this week, WNI(Wednesday Night Irregulars) had to be cancelled this week due to unforeseen circumstances. So no Zombicide fun. My painting has slowed to the gait of a lumbering zombie, not that it's blazing at the best of times. I have managed to finished the four studio plastics shown above.

Adding to the general lethargy was the complete disaster of my painting light malfunction. Luckily it turned out only to be the bulb, a two pin halogen, but what a pain in the arse performance it was to find a replacement.

Right, enough of my whinging and on with the usual introductions. Left to Right: First up today we have Emlyn who looks like he used to work out, just what us fatties need, fit zombies. Next in line is Garth sporting some natty combats, my first attempt at camo in nearly a decade, these were inspired by Mathyoo's insurgents. Following along is Hywel, from smartly dressed team leader to disheveled meat follower. Shame. Last but not least another zombie in scrubs, I want lots of hospital staff as they would be frontline at the start of the outbreak, he's called Idris.

On a painting note, I tried to pick colours to contrast with the skin tone and I've returned to giving them an overall wash instead of just the clothing. Looks much better IMO, feels safe too.

Until next time the DUDE wants you to "take it easy".

WEDNESDAY NIGHT IRREGULARS (WNI) KIND OF BAT REP

Managed to get some in game shots at this weeks gathering of the WNI.
This was mid game. I'm playing DEREK, to my left is Sheldon playing RAOUL.
To my right is Morph playing ELSA, opposite me is Hodginton-Smythe playing as NEEMA.
Just out of shot is the strangeness that is The Tollman playing as AMY.

This was about the Mid-point, DEREK (Yellow):I know unpainted minis: is about to pick up his second
Objective Token. His first Objective Token revealed a survivor to rescue/play as which was NED (Red)
in his Zombivore form. NEEMA (Burgundy) has just let rip with an assault rifle twice up the street.
RAOUL (Khaki) and AMY (Purple) are about to let loose with shotguns before clearing out with a
chainsaw. NED searched the Pimpmobile and found The Evil Twins (double shot pistols). They remind
of the scene in Resident Evil 2 (I think) when the S.T.A.R.S. offer the black guy a weapon and he reveals
his gold plated Desert Eagles and says "Please my shit is CUSTOM".

Toxic Abomination painted by Sheldon, pretty sweet for just a dip and Matt varnish. He's not finished
yet, going to look good later no doubt. It's only Sheldon and myself who paint out of our band of
Hobbynauts. The others are either too lazy or too scared to (don't ask).

These are Sheldon's Toxic Walkers, really cool now they have been based, had their spines picked
out and a dash of red wash added here and there. He didn't want to paint them properly as "they are
only board game pieces". I think time was also a major factor in his decsion to go down this route.
We almost completed the mission, but the two and a half hour game turned into a three and a half hour game and time ran out on us. Some of us do have jobs you know. A great night was had by all, as usual, and we will gather to try and survive again next week. Zombicide seems to be our go to game at the moment, until I sort out the stuff for ATZ anyway. I don't know how regular these game night reports will be, or if anyone will show their faces next time, I'll try to take some shots every week but who knows.

MORE UNDEAD GIRLS

ONLY THREE AND A HALF BEAUTIFUL BABES THIS TIME.

THESE LADIES ARE DRESSED TO KILL. AND FEED.
Before I start the usual amble let's have some pre-amble, I have to say that I'm really enjoying Season 4 of The Walking Dead. Don't worry no spoilers here. I just had to mention it being a zombie blog and all.
  Now back to the ladies.
Left to Right : Leading tonights lineup is Anwyn all dressed up and no-one to eat. Next in line is Seren another waitress, she only serves up pain now. Following along is Enfys, she reminds me of the zombie after Rick on his bicycle in the first episode of TWD. Finally we have Bethan, sporty girl, but even her fancy trainers couldn't help her outrun the zombies.
No conversions this time, straight out of the box, vanilla if you like.
My earlier frustration at the vixens has eased somewhat as the end of batch is in sight, probably miss them when they are finished.
Tonight is game night for the WNI (Wednesday Night Irregulars) and the plan is to run the first mission from the Zombicide Toxic Mall expansion. We were all introduced to the Toxic Zombies and new weapons last week, but in a regular Zombicide mission, we got our arse kicked. So tonight should be a little different and hopefully just as much fun.

Listen to the DUDE and "take it easy"

GIRLS,GIRLS,GIRLS.

FOUR MORE SEXY LADIES JOIN THE HORDE.

THE USUAL CHEEKY REAR VIEW.
Back to the zombies this post.
So here we have four more delightful divas for your viewing pleasure.I don't know about you lot but the girls are starting to irritate me, must push on and finish them this week as I'm losing interest and sanity.
I've put together twelve of the Studio plastics kindly given to me by VAMPIFAN in preparation/celebration of finishing them.
OK then on with the introductions, Left to Right:
The first lady to shuffle into the spotlight is Rhiannon, caught in her nightie in the middle of the road. Next up we have the beautiful Megan, not exactly a picture of health anymore. Third in line is Nerys, a chambermaid at the local hotel not that she'll be changing any more sheets. Our final lady this post is Ffion a nurse, got to love the uniform. Some of you may have noticed Ffions massive ponytail, this was taken from a Space Wolf Scout and transplanted here.
In other news, the WNI (Wednesday Night Irregulars) managed to reconvene this week after several weeks off due to the bunker refit. A cracking game of Zombicide ensued, with the introduction of Toxic Zombies and the new characters from Toxic City Mall. Also at some time over the weekend BZA surpassed 1000 page views, I find this incredible and want to thank everyone who has taken the time to look and comment.

QUICK SIT REP

I was just checking my usual round of blogs, I had left a few comments on a couple, this is unlike me as I usually prefer to just lurk. What made my day was that two of my blogging heroes VAMPIFAN and ZADABAK replied to my comments. I feel all warm inside.
The other reason for this sit rep is that for the next two to four weeks my house is going through a major refit, new kitchen, new bathroom, new boiler and new fire. This is forcing the family to live in only a couple of rooms, as you can imagine painting and modelling has to take a bit of a back seat. Even the loyal following of the WNI (Wednesday Night Irregulars) has had to been cancelled for the next few weeks.
Do not panic, things are just going to slow down not stop completely. I hope. Things will get back to normal ASAP 'til then in the words of the DUDE, take it easy.

ON THE BEACH. IN HD.

I Found the caption thingy.

So in new HD cos I found the embigenator function.

My fifth attempt at WF zombies, in HD and all it's gory mistakes. I can only hope to improve. So the grey urban basing was getting a little tedious and to change direction I took a little trip to the coast, even zombies got to take a holiday (vacation) right?
As usual Left to Right we have Grabbing Geraint,he's Grasping Gareths cousin, you might be able to spot the family resemblence. Next we have Chuck Morris, hardest zombie in Wales. Chuck has had a head swap with a spare GW demon head from my bits box.Following Chuck is Zombie Me, well nearly the model has got smaller moobs. The sharp eyed among you may notice that the next model is not a WF zombie, he is one of the Mantic zombies given to me by my freindly local gaming club the CROW VALLEY CRUSADERS via one of the WNI (Wednesday Night Irregulars). His name is Slackface, the Mantic zombies are much more detailed than the WF, cool to paint. I tried to solve the lack of modern clothing by painting it orange to simulate the remains of a prison boiler suit. Lastly we have Dai Chi, painted as a reservist soldier.
Any way that's quite enough shite out of me for this post.
In the words of the DUDE , take it easy.

3 rd 5 WARGAMES FACTORY ZOMBIES

This is nuts 140 pageviews already! Thanks for looking. Any how on with the horde. Is 15 a horde, I dont think so. Left to Right we have Fed Ex, Grasping Gareth, Storeman, Hardware Shop Owner and Lefty Lewis.
Tonight was game night again for the WNI (Wednesday Night Irregulars) we played Zombicide again, mission was called Big W, we kicked ass. Completed mission and nobody took a wound. Starting to get the hang of this co-operative gaming, too used to Zombies!!! where half the fun was screwing each other over.

QUICK UPDATE SORRY NO PICS

Just a quick update, downloaded Akula's AR:SE rules and Grekwood's free rules, thank you gentlemen. LEGENDS both. Also downloaded the Crooked Dice free cabin, my first go at card scenery.Fingers crossed or at least not cut off.
Tonight is game night for the WNI (Wednesday Night Irregulars) so no painting or construction this evening, but there will be zombie mayhem thanks to my christmas pressie of Zombicide.
Sheldon our resident analist has already painted his copy of Zombicde, but he only one-coated and washed his zombies, not good enough for me as I will be using my zombies for ATZ, so they need to be painted properly.
In the words of the DUDE "take it easy"
