What's occurrin' then?
A real mixed bag of a week here at the bunker. A little painting, a little shopping, a little reading and a lot of watching rugby. Yes, the Six Nations circus touched down again this weekend (taking up valuable painting time) but at least we beat the French, in their own backyard no less. Cue happy Bob.
Let's continue to inject some much needed culture into the world of zombies with more art. This is another great piece by the man of the moment Bryan Baugh it's called Hot Dirt. Enjoy!
You may remember me complaining last post about Amazon's slackness in delivering my goods. Well, it turns out that the enigma that is my son gave them his old payment details, which were out of date. Cue reorder last Sunday. I'm pleased to say that everything has arrived safely.
What was it that you ordered Bob? We can't remember and are too damn idle to look back at last weeks post. Well, let me refresh everyone's memory. The first thing, being so impressed by the Core Set, was the Zombicide Toxic/Prison paint set by Army Painter. The other item was a collected trade paperback comprising the first story arc of the zombie comic '68.
The Zombicide Toxic/Prison paint set has only six colours but is half the price at £10, representing even better value for money than the Core set. All the colours are intended for painting the zombies that come with Toxic City Mall and Prison Outbreak box sets. Although I'm sure I'll use them for other things as well.
I've only just discovered the zombie comic '68, if you haven't seen it, as a zombie fan I urge you to check it out. It runs with the idea that the events in Night of the Living Dead really happened and shows how the world was affected, in particular the Vietnam War. The first story arc is collected together in a trade paperback called '68 : Better Run Through The Jungle. I'm very impressed, this is a beautiful product and would highly recommend it to any zombie enthusiast. I'm going to get the second trade paperback as soon as I can.
So, we've covered a little shopping and a little reading. Let's move onto a little painting. As the title suggests, these are the last of the survivor type figures that I've made up from the Wargames Factory Apocalypse Survivors : The Men box, I've also made some cops and zombies but these are the last survivor types.
So the line-up this time, first guy is another Studio plastic/Wargames Factory mash up. The similarity to George W. Bush is quite unnerving. I was so short of survivors I had to throw in Crazy Ned from Zombicide season 1. I think I read he's based on Alan Moore, the comic book writer behind some awesome stories such as The Watchmen and V for Vendetta, to name just two. The final guy I decided to make as a very well prepared survivor (or a prepper), so he has just about everything needed to bug out to his well stocked hidey hole. I made the straps for his backpack myself.
That's it then for the survivors from this box, like I said some cops and zombies to come, then it's time to buy something else. Unless Zombicide : Rue Morgue turns up in the meanwhile.
Right then, it's St Davids day today so we have to go and get the leeks ready, oh and prepare the feast and human sacrifice. DEWI SANT!
That's it for now dudes and dudettes. So until next time try and be more like the DUDE and "take it easy".

NICE LITTLE PAINT SET. |

EXCELLENT READ & BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK. |

THE FINAL SURVIVORS FOR NOW. |

AGAIN, PAINT IS STILL BEING APPLIED TO THE BACK OF THEM. |

Delighted you enjoyed '68 Bob, and some lovely survivors to boot. Good to see some more minis too - I especially like George ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Bk.
Delete'68 was a great read and the artwork was excellent, definitely getting the next one pretty soon. I can just imagine George holding out at his big Texas ranch!
I love new paints!! I think it's some terrible affliction on my part. I like the range of colours you have there and looking forward to seeing how they turn out. What colours are the two shaders? can't tell from the bottle!
ReplyDeletemore great survivors - can tell you've got your painting mojo back!:) must be the new brushes still!
One is a shader for the orange and the other is for the purple. Both are really interesting additions to the paint collection
DeleteThanks CW.
DeleteI think I could have the same affliction, I find them oddly exciting. Paul has kindly answered your question on the shaders. I'm most definitely still enjoying the new brushes.
Keep up the great work dude!
ReplyDeleteThanks Andre.
DeleteI'll keep on trucking, there's a long road ahead dude!
Very cool and a couple more things added to my wish list!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael.
DeleteGood to hear you enjoyed your visit and I could help with the wish list.
Great looking survivors! I'll have to keep an eye out for the paints when I need to restock. It sounds like they are pretty decent.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve.
DeleteI really like the paints personally and their not too badly priced.
Nice looking surviors the mashup has turned out great. Love the prepper as well I love all the accessories you get in the wgf set. Nice straps as well. Made from paper?
ReplyDeleteThanks Simon.
DeleteKitbashing is one of the great things about working with plastics. There's plenty of accessories in the WGF kits, will go to all sorts of uses. No, the straps are made from yoghurt lid foil, I find it really good for modelling stuff.
Useful to know. I tried straps with paper on my Walking Dead Merle kitbash. It did the job ok. But the foil lid might be worth a go on future jobs. I'm to cack handed to do straps in putty.
DeleteThanks again Simon.
DeleteMe too, that's why I do it in foil. Try to fold it to use a double thickness.
Wow Bob, you've surpassed yourelf with these minis, they look great and you're right about George Bish too - uncanny !
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I can't get into reading comics, I had enogh trouble finding zombie novels that I could stick with - I'm much more comfortable with non-fiction which is tricky with zombie gaming !
Thanks Joe.
DeleteIt can't really be George W. he's too stupid to be a survivor. Each to their own, I like comics as much for the artwork, not just the story. I bet it's really hard to non-fiction zombie literature.
More cool survivors Bob- the backpack on Mr Prepared looks nice and natural, which is not always easy with the Wargames Factory sprues, or when making your own straps.
ReplyDeleteI grabbed '68 from the local library after seeing it mentioned here, really interesting concept, one which got me pondering where I left my Vietnam miniatures....
Thanks Chris.
DeleteI think the backpack looks a little stiff, just about got away with, straps helped even though they were a pain in the arse. What I tried to do was disguise it by painting all his equipment ie backpack, holster, sheath and belt the same colour.
'68 is a great premise for a zombie comic, it would be cool to do some zombies from that era. I really liked the zombie's skin colour in there too.
I think you have gotten away with it- maybe he just has something large and rectangular in his pack?
Delete'68 has some really good ideas in it, something I am going to keep pondering on I am sure....
Thanks again Chris.
DeleteGlad to have stimulated some ponderin' dude!
Lots of cool stuff in this post, Bob. If you enjoyed volume 1 of "68" you'll certainly enjoy volume 2... and volume 3... and volume 4. Your wallet won't but you will! :)
ReplyDeleteGood to hear that the Zombicide paints are so good. They certainly are well priced at Amazon.
I love the three survivors, especially Ned, whom you've painted exceptionally well.
Thanks Bryan.
DeleteI didn't enjoy volume 1 of '68, I loved it. I'll just tick along, picking them up every now and again. It's not a sprint, more of a marathon Dude.
Yeah, I really like the Zombicide paints, what can I say it's my first experience with squeezy bottle technology.
Great post, Bob. Rather curious to see how that jumpsuit shader works out. Orange can be a tricky color.
ReplyDeleteThanks Finch.
DeleteYeah me too!
I've been enjoying this survivor joy ride for so long I'm sorry to see it end. The George W, Bush survivor is eerie and your strap work is improving Bob I think you are sliding into the master converter category. I have not read '68 I may have to heed your urging.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob.
DeleteIt has been a while, don't worry I'm sure there will be more at some point. George W. is kind of freaky.
If you like zombies '68 is a great read and has some beautiful artwork.
I noticed you always paint in sets of threes (They look good by the way). As for me, I can barely finish one as it is. I have got to improve my painting speed.
ReplyDeleteThe cover art on the book looks really cool. I can only imagine how good the rest of the pages must be.
Thanks F.E.M.
DeleteI try for around four to five mini's a week, but it doesn't always work out that way. I think you'll find yours are a far superior finish than mine, maybe that's why it takes you a little longer.
'68 is a great product full of lovely artwork, I'll try and get some splash page pics for the next post.
That middle guy has soooo much character!!! I really do need to pick up a box of "The Men".
ReplyDeleteThanks S.O.H.
DeleteThe middle guy is not from the Wargames Factory box, he's from Zombicide season 1. Yes he does have a lot of character.
Hmm George Bush and Alan Moore as survivors. We need more celebrity survivors.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bf.
DeleteThe Zombicide game has lot's of survivors based on celebrities.
