CARD COP CAR AND NEW MINI'S

What's occurrin' then?

Still can't seem to get my arse into gear on the painting front. Suffering from a real lack of motivation and enthusiasm. Just can't shake off this fugue, it's starting to piss me off too. I have managed a little printing and card modelling, so I guess that's better than nothing at all. Luckily the WNI (Wednesday Night Irregulars) continue to show up, so I'm still gaming every week, Zombicide mainly. Although once a month we play Dead of Winter for a change of pace. I even tried some retail therapy to lift my spirits but to no avail.

Despite my trials and woes the cultural mission must continue. I endeavour to bring you all some zombie art every post in the faint hope that some culture sticks, not just to you but to me as well. I think we all need to be more cultured, it will make us more rounded individuals. Once again I present to you another fantastic piece from the incredibly talented Bryan Baugh. It's a tribute to the movie The Beyond. Wonderful tonal piece. Great movie. Enjoy!

So instead of painted figures, I'm going to show you Crow Valley Sherriff's Dept first patrol car. I found these on the Inkjet_Paper_Scissors blogspot, they were designed by Grendel's Mother and are free to download. My first real go at a card vehicle so it's a bit shit really, I can only hope to improve. Well it could hardly get any worse.

It's not quite finished yet, still needs it's roof lights, but hey!

SHANE AND THE BOYS CHECK OUT THEIR NEW RIDE.

As can be seen in the above photo' I've also printed out Andy's Gun Works, based on the gun shop from the Dawn of the Dead remake. I've only stuck it onto foamcore so far, yet another project to be completed. It's available to download for free from Model Paper World. There's a lot to see on that site most of it is designed by Tommygun.

Tommygun has designed loads of modern buildings and scatter terrain, like boxes and cases and such. All very useful and free to download.

I mentioned that I'd even tried retail therapy. Spending a little more of my birthday money, I placed an order with Westwind Productions. They carry a modern horror line called Roadkill. A pack of four figures costs £6.50, less than £1.70 a figure, I can live with that.

This first pack is called Rednecks/Militia and they evoke the good ole boy / hillbilly vibe I'm looking for. I'm no expert on weapons but they have a couple of shotguns and a couple of assault rifles between them. Oh, and a four pack of beer. What! Zombie killing's thirsty work! Like I said, just the vibe I'm looking for.

SOME REDNECKS OUT A HUNTIN'

The rednecks are my first foray into the gangs that can be encountered during play. I told you this was going to take a while.

The second pack is another small force of cops, these have different style uniforms to the Crow Valley Sheriff Department. The flashlight is a nice touch. I also liked the fact they are only armed with pistols.

ANOTHER FORCE OF POLICE.

Even these shiny new models have failed to get me to lift my brush in anger. I really have got to get my shit together.

The Rugby World Cup kicks off this Friday, that just might impinge on my painting time. So the last few months of poor productivity looks set to continue at least for one more anyway.

Well, I guess that's all I got for this time dudes and dudettes. So until next time, try and do as the DUDE does and "take it easy".

  1. Those are some very nice buys from "Westwind" Bob and will look great with a lick of paint or two - very tempting indeed... especially as I've not considered that range before. Good work on the police car too - I'm getting more inclined to do some card modelling myself. I really like Andy's Gun Works as it reminds me of the Andy special short they did with the same actor depicting his ordeal whilst inside the store - have you seen it? Hope the mojo returns very soon my friend.

    2. Thanks Bk.
The Westwind Road Kill line is very nice. Cool sculpts and affordable, highly recommended.
I find card modelling an essential part of my low cost approach to the project, plus it's fun although sometimes challenging.
I haven't seen the short you mentioned, where would I find it?

I found it last night. Interesting interior shots dude!

    5. I think its a cracking little short. its a pity they don't do some more tbh as I thought (with the exception of freaking fast zeds) the movie was rather good. But felt the ending was awful...

    6. It was very good! There was a deleted scenes short too. I liked the interiors as it gives me some idea on how to furnish my own little version.
I felt the movie was one of the best remakes I've seen, despite the fast zombies and I liked the fact that it didn't have a happy ending. Tell me you watched all the end credits.

  2. Never card built myself, but I guess like all things (and as you've said) practice brings improvement. SO I WANT TO SEE YOU BUILD A CARD MODEL OF THE MILLENNIUM STADIUM NEXT!!!!!!!! After that you should be really good ;))

I've never bought from Westwind before, what's their customer service / posting time like, please?

Card modelling is a hobby all on it's on, it's good fun if somewhat frustrating at first. I think a few more cars and things need to be completed before I even attempt the holy turf of the Millennium Stadium. By the way, it's being re-named the Principality Stadium.

  3. The West Wind Roadkill range is well worth checking out. I have all of them and they fit in so well with any zombie apocalypse game. I'm sure you won't stop at just these two sets.

I heartily agree, I really like the Road Kill line and seriously doubt I'll be stopping at these two sets, although I think I'll pass on the vampires and werewolves, nice but not my thing.

    2. "I have all of them" - No surprise there Bryan as nothing even slightly zed-related gaming wise can pass the all-seeing eye of Vampifan; "one Bryan to bring them all and in the darkness blog them!!" :-)

  4. Dude you are in the doldrums! Love the new shinies, especially those good'ol boys! I have no doubt that things will right themselves as, most importantly, the love of the hobby is still there.

Doldrums indeed! It will pass, it always does, just varies on length of time. Just so frustrating sometimes. Like the DUDE I must abide.
The good ol' boys are lots of fun, just need to paint the blighters!

  6. I know the feeling well of having little inclination to do anything; my enthusiasm comes in fits and spurts too.
West Wind have some great figures and these are no exception. I've seen the cop car and the other stuff on the site, but I wasn't completely convinced - I'm still looking for suitable ready-built and cheap alternative models

My enthusiasm tank feels like it's empty at the moment, very frustrating waiting for it to refill.
West Wind have a lot of nice stuff but the RoadKill line really fits the bill. Not too pricey either, a definite bonus.
The cop car and other vehicles from there are not too bad when they are put together. Plus they were free, a major plus. I've found a few other police vehicles in card but they need resizing. They will do for now. Good luck in your search for something cheap, biggest reason I went with card tbh.

  7. I feel for you cause I'm going through the same thing. Although the weather didn't help, I have found it difficult to get motivated on painting this past week. I just hope it's not burnout.

I'm pretty sure in my case, it's not burnout, you have to actually do something to suffer from burnout.

  8. Ah yes... the dreaded arse in neutral syndrome. I know you well. No worries, Bob. This too shall pass.

Neutral would be good, I don't seem to be able to turn the ignition. Yes it will pass, but when, when.
