END OF AN ERA. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.

More zombies? Hell yeah. These guys represent an end of an era. They are the last of my zombies to get a wash of Devlan Mud, because I've finally ran out. It will be much missed as it made my mediocre painting look much better than it really is. The much maligned GW Corp. really nailed it with that stuff, it was like a "magic wash", vastly improving us non-Golden Demon mere mortals into half decent painters. Then they typically dropped the ball and stopped making it, twats.

Did I mention the smell? Devlan Mud had a strange, repulsive yet alluring stink to it, that I'm definitely going to miss. No point crying over spilt milk, time to move on and find something else. Just one more reason to hate GW Corp. Here's something I saw on hybrid horde's The Walking Lead blog. He said he had a dream where there were more zombies than space marines. AMEN TO THAT.

Enough maudlin' and on with the introductions:
THE LAST OF MY ZOMBIES TO LOOK ANY GOOD.
Kicking us off this time is Kymidei, the local Avon girl, makes "Avon calling" a bit more sinister. Next up is Cheesey Dai, a bin man. Following along is Taran the worst motherfucker in the village. Leader of the Cwmbran Massive, well ex leader. Last into the spotlight is Gawain, a promising young athelete, before he re-animated.
END OF AN ERA. THE LAST OF THE DEVLAN MUD ZOMBIES RIDE INTO THE SUNSET.

I think I'll spend a few days mixing up some washes and experimenting with them. Try to find something to use "for now".

That's all I got for now dudes and dudettes, 'til next time know that the DUDE wants you all to "take it easy".

  1. Bob, much as I hate GW (and I REALLY do HATE them!) their new ink washes are very good. Their Agrax Earthshade (stupid name) is a decent replacement for Devlan Mud. Hmm, just thinking, you should name one of your zombie as Devlin Mudd! LOL!

    1. Thanks Bryan.
Thanks for the heads up on the Agrax Earthshade.
      I like that name idea.
Mixed a batch of various washes, going to try that on the next batch.

  2. That's a shame about Devlan Mud - it really brought the room together.

Keep trying washes, as Bryan said, the new GW inks are pretty good (I may despise GW but they do have some decent stuff) although the price is, as expected, crazy. I keep experimenting with various stains, the small tins are cheap, and you can find some interesting colors and effects. Maybe worth trying from the local DIY store.

    1. I like it, dude jokes. Thanks Steve.
I've just made up a batch from various washes I have. Going to use that for now,(for now read till it runs out, I'm tight like that.) and it should really tie the room together.

  3. I'm sure you'll be able to concoct something similar, out of necessity if nothing else, to keep the production line going.

  4. Hey Bob, I find the Army Painter dips to work well for me. You have been seeing them so can judge for yourself. I am using the older tin Strong shade atm for mine.

  5. It's the End of the World as we know it! I felt the same way Bob, Bryan's right, Agrax Earthshade is decent replacement. It is different, but it is still a pretty decent product and there are plenty of other similar products now.

  6. Great zeds Dude! Like you I loved Devlan Mud and recently got to the end of my last pot too. For what it is worth Army Painter strong tone is a pretty good substitute.

That seems to be a popular replacement. Gonna have to try it.

  7. Great zeds Bob. I don't use washes myself as both my black and brown wash got all clumpy (I was new back then, wasn't mixing bottles pre-use.:P). I just water down some paint and slap it on. It leaves stains, so it's not as good as you'd want.

What you would want to do is mix some paint, some water and then add just a little bit of ACRYLIC floor polish (assuming you have it, I went through our stuff and none of it seems to be acrylic). This detergent stuff breaks tension in the paint, so that paint flows better. Voila - Boban Mud wash :)

  8. Missed this one its been a crazy week. Can highly recommend the army painter inks. Not tried the colour ones yet but the dark (black), soft (Sepia) and strong tones in the dropper bottles are great.

  9. Army painter Strong Tone, similar to the dip but dries matt. I've just tried Soft Tone and its good as it doesn't mask the base colour much. Dark Tone is their black variant.
P.S. Zombicide season 3 kicks off June 29th. Boom!

    1. What do you know about painting? Honestly, they've let you near a computer without supervision again.
