FOUR MORE SURVIVORS.

What's occurrin' then?
Now the NFL season is over you'd think I would have more time to paint. Wrong! The Six Nations Championship has started. You see rugby is a bit of a religion in Wales. When I was a nipper nearly every school only played rugby, no football only rugby. It's also our working class sport as opposed to football. So when you grow up with it like that you think it's the most normal thing in the world. It's almost too hard to believe that things are any different in other parts of the country or the world. Now last week we suffered again the embarrassment of losing to the old enemy, England, at home no less. It's hard to express the shame and dejection the nation feels at these times, that's why I didn't mention it. Anyway the games continue this weekend, we are away to Scotland, and another 48 hours is lost worshipping the oval ball, Bacchus and Dionysus.

To get us back on track, we shall continue in our efforts to enhance the cultural aspect of zombies by introducing more zombie art. Once again we have another piece by the amazing and strangely talented Bryan Baugh. This one is called Just Eatin' Some Brains. Enjoy.

JUST EATIN' SOME BRAINS

These new brushes seem to have increased my output this week. I've managed to finish four survivors, the most I've done in some time. Let's hope it's not just a flash in the pan! I have to admit to being mightily impressed by the Zombicide Core Paint Set. Even at the full retail price of £20, for ten bottles, that's still 50p a bottle cheaper than GW. If that's not enough these bottles have 18ml of paint where as the GW pots only have 12ml, you do the maths. I think I'll be picking up the Toxic/Prison set in the next few weeks.

So, on with the show and tell. As I said earlier I managed four survivors this week, three of them are armed with melee weapons for those up close and personal moments.

The dude on the extreme left is another kitbash using a Studio plastic zombie torso and legs, (Thanks once again Bryan.) with WGF survivor arms and head. The next guy along has been converted by cutting the long coat off at the waist, turning it in to a biker jacket, with no sleeves to make him extra tough looking. Another guy in overalls next, really hard to change the pose of this one, so I gave him a different weapon and a well known soft drink (probably worth fighting over after a hard day's slaying). The last dude is another ganger making good in the chaos.

CHOP,CHOP,CHOP.
I'm pretty sure my new kit (brushes and paints) improved my performance this week, even if they didn't, it felt like they did. I believe that's called the placebo effect. So here's hoping the effect continues for the next few weeks, at least.

THE BACKS ARE STILL GETTING A LICK OF PAINT.

In other news, I caught a film that had snuck under my radar. The Last Days On Mars. I thought it was a straight sci-fi movie, to be honest I hadn't really heard anything about it! It's fairly low budget, but doesn't feel like it. There's nothing terribly original here but it is well done.

So basically the plot is, one of the scientists finds an unknown microbe in a rock. This stuff turns people into zombies (Yeah, zombies in space). The rest of the movie is a race for the crew to get off the planet without dying or becoming infected. It was pretty cool, I enjoyed it and think that anyone with an interest in zombies should check it out.

Well that's all I got for this time dudes and dudettes. So until the next time, try and be more like the DUDE and "take it easy".

  1. There is much to be happy about with this post, Bob. First up is that terrific painting by the other Bryan. I do enjoy seeing all the artwork you post. Please don't stop!

Secondly, there's no reason not to use the Studio plastic zombies for humans. A simple head and arms swap works, as you so ably demonstrated. Your conversions all look very good.

Finally, what I'm really pleased about is your admiration of the Zombicide paint set. I've been considering buying this for a long time but I wanted to know how good they are. I am now very tempted to send off for them, especially seeing as Amazon UK have them on sale for just £15.

Don't worry the art isn't going to stop anytime soon, it's officially a "thing" now, glad your enjoying it.
The Studio plastic's make a nice change of pace for the basis of a survivor.
I really like the Zombicide paint set, good coverage and they work out to be quite good value. You should get some, especially at that price.

  2. Awesome jobs on these four guys. Love the look of the guy with the trimmed down coat it looks really good. I shall have to stow that idea away.

That's the advantage of working with plastic, changes like that are easy to make.
      Stow away dude!

Last Friday was not a good day! We beat Scotland today though, so a little balance has been restored, closer than was comfortable mind.

The survivor boxset is well worth it, 30 figures and a sprue full of extras for around £15. Hopefully, I'll be getting the womens set really soon.

  5. Cracking post Bob. Love the survivors and that's a really good look you've given to "The Fonz". I can just see him tearing off his sleeves picking up some firearms and giving those Zeds some 'Happy Days' ;-)

I was thinking more like Marlon Brando (The Wild One) but the Fonz works too. It's the Zeds who'll be having "Crappy Days" TM.

  6. Excellent survivors, you've inspired me recently to paint a a few more up. The Coke (or Nuka Cola) can is hilarious. I really like how you keep the bases all different. I'm copying you on my next batch.

Great to be an inspiration dude! Can't wait to see yours. Other soft drinks are available ha ha. I'm trying to make all my bases urban yet mixed for a little variety. Copy away dude!

  7. I feel the pain you'll now be suffering over the result of the game played by men with funny shaped balls, but you can look on these recent survivors for some succour, they do look great.

The pain has eased a little with todays win against Scotland. Succour recieved!

  8. The non-zombie-apocalypse movie/book The Road had a scene involving a can of soda. Even lacking refrigeration, soft drinks would be a valued commodity it seems.

Great looking survivors. Especially like the guy on the right. Pairing of purple and yellow really pops.

Funny enough that was what inspired my idea for the soda can. Great book and movie. I think soft drinks would definitely be one of many mundane things that become valuable after the apocalypse.
Purple and yellow are a great example of discordant colours that really work together.

I'm still very short on scenery at the moment. A few more months should hopefully change that but I have said that the journey is going to take a while.
I only bought the ATZ rules the other week, so things are progressing, just pretty slowly.

  10. Lovely paint work! On the paint front, is it just me, or do you find the Army Painter paints thinner? Keep in mind, I've used mainly Vellejo paints up til a couple weeks ago.

I've never used Vallejo paints so couldn't make that comparison. Up until I bought this paint set I'd only used GW paints and I thought the Army Painter stuff stood up very well compared to those.

It's good to hear you like the artwork.
As I said to Hobbyworker above, I'm really short on scenery at the moment and I need to run through the rules a few times having only bought them a couple of weeks ago. I have said the journey is going to take a while, so please bear with me and your patience is appreciated.

  13. I like the details you painted on the coke can. Stuff like this makes the mini come to life. This particular Bryan Baugh poster I don't like so much ... hmmm, must be the missing pin-up girl.

It was easier to make it a coke can rather than a beer can, more recognisable too. Don't worry the next one has pin-up girls, yes plural, girls.
